March 1st is a rather notable day in Bulgaria where we celebrate with a tradition of giving each other "martenitsas". Martenitsa is a small piece of adornment, made of white and red yarn and worn from March 1 until around the end of March. It is related to the Bulgarian tradition of welcoming the upcoming spring. The month of March, according to Bulgarian folklore, marks the beginning of springtime. Therefore, the first day of March is a traditional holiday associated with sending off winter and welcoming spring.
Pretty Flowers | Valentine's Day Edition
My rational brain clearly understands the rules of supply and demand, but I sorely need a reason for my significant other NOT to spend an outrageous amount of money on a bouquet of flowers that will die within a week for Valentine's Day. Here is an alternative.
On Trend | More Flowers
This time around, I went for drama! Punches of orange and maroon with a tiny bit of eucalyptus seemed to do the trick! $12.99 spent on having a ton of fun with the camera and making my living room look classy and pretty for a dinner party I hosted. I say, win-win. Happy Sunday!
How to Make the Everyday a Special Day
My favorite thing to do at the grocery store (in addition to loading up on berries and crackers) is "picking" flowers...
The Dying Art of Old-School Friendships | Revived
Today I got this absolute masterpiece of a card in the mail. From a friend I absolutely adore. Completely unexpected. And I couldn't help but wonder (what a great line, Carrie Bradshaw) - what happened to the old-fashioned/classy way of saying "I am thinking of you" via actual post? It brings so much unexpected delight, doesn't it? Did we abandon it because it has a certain lack of immediacy? Or, did we boost its charm due to its rarity. Either way, it has such a tremendous power to uplift even the greyest of days. And it makes one realize how a little gesture can mean so much to a treasured friendship. Cheers to you, dear friend! You are spectacular and I hope we're friends until we die.
Introducing the bookbook!
Happy Friday, everyone!
I have long been a huge IKEA fan - their groundbreaking furniture design combined with their global logistics have defined at least two generations of budget-conscious design aficionados. Today, they wowed me on yet another level - clever marketing. Just another reason to love IKEA (my other reasons include: chocolate almond cake, KARLSTAD couches, and the coolest napkins on the market)!
The Little Things that Mean a Lot
Thank You
For the grin on my face that my co-workers had never seen before or even thought existed. Sometimes the little gestures in life can mean so much when they are least expected. The most perfect and beautiful end to an exhausting week.
A few months back, a co-worker of mine convinced me to join my company's Spartan Race team. He didn't talk it up much: he mentioned it's a long-ish run with a few fun obstacles. You know, no big deal. Something someone who runs as much as me should complete more than easily (read, you don't really need to train for it). Ha ha ha.
