Roses are pretty, classy, and always welcome.
But when it comes to Valentine's Day, they seem a bit cliche and unoriginal, don't you think? (I have to insert some fine print here, which goes along the lines of: I do like roses but I don't like their price tag on Valentine's Day. My rational brain clearly understands the rules of supply and demand, but I sorely need a reason for my significant other NOT to spend an outrageous amount of money on a bouquet of flowers that will die within a week. Phew, got it off my chest!) Now, on to what alternatives we have... My suggestion is pretty cheap, or as I would put it more properly, it is color-friendly, abundant, and rather affordable around the holiday. For less than $9.49, you can deck out the house with fresh flowers and plenty of cheer. And that is one frugal way to make someone feel special on Valentine's Day (and coincidentally, President's Day!).
PS: Cake verdict from Saturday: YUM.
A few months back, a co-worker of mine convinced me to join my company's Spartan Race team. He didn't talk it up much: he mentioned it's a long-ish run with a few fun obstacles. You know, no big deal. Something someone who runs as much as me should complete more than easily (read, you don't really need to train for it). Ha ha ha.
