What did you think I was talking about?
As I am in the middle of a Sex and the City marathon (guilty pleasure for all almost-30 year-old females, right?), I find this topic oddly comforting. I may not be Carrie Bradshaw-worth of a shoecaholic, but I can definitely give her a run for the money. The major difference being: I tend to not spend a full paycheck on a pair of Manolo's.
In fact, I do not own that many pairs of shoes. But I do tend to invest in my shoes (Notice that there? I called it investing...). But as my financial theory goes, shoes, as well as bags, are worth the splurge.
Here is my reasoning: price per wear. As with bags, if you invest in a few very good pairs of shoes, you will get enough wear out of them that your price per wear will go way down. But, the prerequisite for not going broke is that key statement: a few. So if you are limited by how many pairs, what should you invest in? Here are my three essential pumps:
Classic Black
Classic Nude
One Extra: A Fun Pattern
There is a common thread among all three of these: classic shapes and good quality materials both of which should render a fairly comfortable fit.
Honestly, I think you can get away with owning just these three pumps! As seen in the inspiration images, each of those is highly workable in a casual, office, or formal setting.
What do you think? Is this too minimal, or is this fair? Sound off!
A few months back, a co-worker of mine convinced me to join my company's Spartan Race team. He didn't talk it up much: he mentioned it's a long-ish run with a few fun obstacles. You know, no big deal. Something someone who runs as much as me should complete more than easily (read, you don't really need to train for it). Ha ha ha.
